The food habits, fashion sense, language and the nightlife of the Bangloreans showcase the cosmopolitan spirit. Idly, dosa, sambar, rice and occasional pizza have been replaced by Chinese, Italian, Indonesian, Lebanese, Persian, Sri Lankan, Mexian cuisines. Today the frilly city restaurants serve yummy pasta, sushi reflecting the multi cultural food habits of the residents. But the presence of numerous South Indian restaurants serving tempting regional cusines show
the residents have kept their traditions intact. When it comes to the medium of communication, English is spoken with great fluency and by a large number of people along with Kannada.
The multi cultural spirit is also seen during any festival when the people iron out the regional, religion, class, caste barriers and take part with enthusiasm. All the important festivals like "Karaga Shaktyotsava", the oldest festival of the city, Deepavali, Dasara, Ganesh Chaturthi, Ugadi, Sankranthi, Eid ul-Fitr and Christmas are celebrated with great fervor.
